Pasadena Unified Issues Modified Agenda for Thursday’s District Strategic Plan Town Hall

The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education has issued an updated agenda for a Thursday Town Hall at 6 p.m., designed to gather community input on its five-year District Strategic Plan (2023-2028). The event will take place in the PUSD Ed Center Board Room, with a live stream available at pusd.us/strategicplan.

The current agenda calls for an introduction of the Imagine PUSD 2028 Strategic Plan and process followed by an overview of what has been learned, the updated vision, the mission, and values, theory of action, and strategic pillars of the plan. The five strategic pillars are learner-focused instruction, outstanding and respected employees, quality learning environment, effective, responsible, and accountable organization, and purposeful collaboration with families and communities to increase trust.

The public is encouraged to engage with the plan and ask questions. The meeting will conclude with a discussion on what’s next and a Q&A session.

The District Strategic Plan will aim to define the purpose, direction, and methods for PUSD’s educational efforts. The public meeting will serve as an opportunity for parents, teachers, staff, students, neighbors, elected officials, family, and friends to share their thoughts and opinions before the plan’s finalization.

In addition to the Town Hall, PUSD has also launched a survey to gather feedback from the public. The survey will be open until May 26 at 5 p.m., providing another avenue for community members to contribute their ideas.

The planning process for the District Strategic Plan revolves around five self-managing design teams, each focusing on specific areas: Culture & Climate, Enrollment, Facilities, Education, and Engagement. The Strategic Planning Steering Committee oversees these teams, collaborating with stakeholders to implement, measure, and continuously improve the plan.

The Culture & Climate Design Team will work on cultivating a positive school culture and climate, while the Enrollment Design Team will strive to increase enrollment and retention rates. The Facilities Design Team will concentrate on enhancing the physical facilities of the schools, and the Education Design Team will aim to improve academic programs and student achievement. Lastly, the Engagement Design Team will be responsible for engaging stakeholders, building support for the strategic plan, and fostering better communication within the school community.

This comprehensive planning process, involving diverse perspectives and expertise from the community, seeks to build trust and commitment for sustainable improvements across Pasadena’s schools.
