Pasadena Unified’s Open Enrollment Application Period Still Open, Until February 1

The Pasadena Unified School District is accepting applications for the annual open enrollment for the 2012-2013 academic year until February 1, 2012. Open Enrollment is PUSD’s voluntary school of choice program that offers area families an opportunity to explore options to attend dual language immersion programs, themed college and career pathway academies, and schools outside of their immediate neighborhoods.

Except for late entry into the dual language immersion programs, there are no academic requirements for admission. All students who will enter K – 11th grade are eligible to apply, and selection is made by random lottery. Space is limited, however, and notifications of acceptance are mailed in March.

Approximately 2,000 students currently attend school through the open enrollment process, although these numbers have declined as schools throughout PUSD have posted gains in test scores.

Some innovative open enrollment options include:

• Dual language Spanish immersion programs beginning in Kindergarten at San Rafael Elementary School

• Dual language Mandarin Chinese immersion programs beginning in Kindergarten at Field Elementary School

• International Baccalaureate at Blair Middle and High School

• College & Career Pathways programs beginning in 9th Grade at all Pasadena high schools

Information about other PUSD schools and programs available as part of open enrollment is available online at www.pusd.us. Applications are due February 1, 2012. Notification letters will be mailed in early March.

Applications are accepted online only at www.pusd.us.  To assist families who may have limited access to the Internet, PUSD offers free computer labs at the following locations throughout the district.
