Playhouse Village Foundation Raises Over $100,000 in First Year

The Playhouse Village Foundation (PVF), a non-profit organization founded last year, has raised over $100,000 to revitalize public spaces and streetscapes within Playhouse Village district of downtown Pasadena.

The foundation’s goal is to create a vibrant urban village in the heart of Pasadena.

Formerly known as the Playhouse District, Playhouse Village is roughly bounded by the 210 freeway on the north, Green Street to the south, Los Robles Avenue to the west, and Catalina Avenue to the east.

The district is known as heart of downtown Pasadena. It includes much of the city’s financial district and premier office space, numerous regional institutions and cultural amenities, and thousands of residential units and mixed-use environments, making for a truly urban, walkable experience.

Despite being around for only a year, PVF has enjoyed support from members of the community who share its vision. The Foundation said the funds raised will go towards improving the area and making it a more attractive and welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.

“The Playhouse Village Foundation was only created about 18 months ago and already has raised more than $100,000, reflecting strong support for a thriving Playhouse Village,” Board Chair Phil Hawkey said. “We thank each and every one of our donors and sponsors for helping us achieve this initial goal.”

Since it was established, the Foundation has created changes in Playhouse Village such as the “Jazz in the Park” concert series, hosted by PVF through the sponsorship by The Ice House.

The series will continue through July every Sunday at 5 p.m.

The PVF has also been instrumental in funding Colorado Boulevard’s Village Al Fresco Pavilions which aims to enhance the outdoor dining experience in the area.

Summer programming initiatives by PVF include a movie series, new shade umbrellas and giant games. “Bark at the Park” a fun Halloween-themed event for dogs and their owners is planned to return this fall.

In the future, the PVF will continue to seek support for the beautification and enhancement of Colorado Boulevard, as well as comprehensive streetscape plans for Lake Avenue between Colorado Blvd. and the 210 freeway and the Mentor Avenue Entertainment District.
