Pasadena Village Offers Free Tech Help for Older Adults

Local nonprofit partners with high school students to provide bilingual IT support

Local nonprofit Pasadena Village will offer free bi-lingual technical assistance to older adults at an IT Cafe on Saturday, April 27. The event, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon at The Shakespeare Club Pasadena, aims to help seniors become less frustrated with technology through the help of friendly, patient volunteers. Attendees can also enjoy free coffee, refreshments, and a puzzle swap.

The nonprofit is partnering with Ayuda Técnica para Mayores (ATM), an organization founded by local high school students who provide bilingual tech support to older adults.

The student volunteers, skilled in computer science and bilingual communication, will provide 1:1 support in English and Spanish to seniors who would otherwise be unable to participate in other outreach programs.

“They are looking to leave a positive impact on the community one step at a time,” according to the event announcement.

Older adults are encouraged to bring their laptop, smartphone, iPhone, watch, or other devices to receive free personalized assistance from knowledgeable volunteers. Registration for the event is recommended and can be done through the Pasadena Village website by clicking here.

A grant from the Pasadena Community Foundation made the free IT Cafe possible, and Pasadena Village is also partnering with LA2050 on this event.
