Pasadena Water and Power Receives Utility Partner of the Year Award from Oracle

Pasadena Water and Power was awarded the prestigious designation of utility partner of the year from Oracle at the recent annual Oracle Utilities User Group conference in Nashville.

Recently, PWP embarked on a transformational initiative to become a more digital and agile utility; adopting solutions to better serve and provide excellent service safely to their community.

PWP’s previous customer information system was implemented in 2001, over 20 years ago, with outdated technology.

Under that system, minimal support services were offered. As business requirements have grown and evolved, several system enhancements and internally developed peripheral applications were necessary additions to the existing CIS functionality.

Each year, Oracle recognizes a utility that demonstrates industry leadership through innovation, significant advancement to the customer experience, clean energy solutions, distributed energy resources, grid modernization, and its value as a resource to help meet the needs of its electricity consumers.

Interfaces paired with the aging technology added incredible complexity and posed significant risk to the maintenance of the system and daily operations.

PWP implemented Oracle Energy & Water’s Customer to Meter software and systems to improve the customer experience, strengthen financial controls, implement change more quickly to keep pace with customer and industry demands, and support future initiatives such as innovative grid improvements.

The new customer account portal was introduced in April 2022 and features new options like paperless billing, access to usage history and more. Since the portal became available to PWP customers, more than 30,000 customers have registered their accounts and are actively using the new systems.
