Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) is warning customers of a recent string of fraudulent calls and emails from scammers disguising themselves as PWP employees. The scammers attempt to extort money from commercial and residential customers, threatening to shut off service unless payment is made.

“This scam verbiage and logo looks very legitimate,” said City spokesperson Lisa Derderian.

The fraudulent calls are originating from the phone numbers 1-800-843-9177, (209) 846-1328, and (424) 286-3570. Fraudulent emails have also been sent from pasadenawaterandpowersupport.com and pasedenawaterandpowersupport.com, both fake addresses.

Derderian said PWP will never ask for payment using Zelle or other third-party apps.

Customers can always verify information by reaching out to customer service directly at (626) 744-4005, Derderian said.
