Pasadena’s Youth and Their Law Enforcement Pals Picnic At Hamilton Park, Mark Fun Year of Police Activities League

The city’s Police Activities League (PAL) celebrated another successful year of establishing connections between the youth and the Pasadena Police Department with a picnic at Hamilton Park Thursday filled with food, games and lifelong friendships.

‘“We love to be able to make a difference in these kids’ lives and see them grow and change. It’s awesome,” said Pasadena Police Officer and PAL Director Roxanne Haines.

The picnic saw about 65 kids in attendance and featured fun games including relay races, a kickball tournament and much more for adults and children alike and a delicious Mexican food feast from the famed “Taco Man” catering company.

“Every year our families of our youth get together with our police officers and we come out here and have a good time,” said Haines.

The Pasadena Police Activities League (PAL) was first introduced to the community in 1997. It offers an array of activities designed to enhance the educational, athletic, and artistic experience of young people. About 150 students are enrolled each academic year.

“PAL is a unique organization. It’s a huge benefit for both the kids and our officers,” said Haines.

The goal is to reach youth at an early age in support of their development by fostering positive attitudes toward authority figures, while providing a safe and stable environment after school to do homework, socialize and participate in structured summer activities, according to the PAL website.

“We’re really extending that long term relationship within the community,” said Lieutenant Tracey Ibarra. “We hope to grow this program out.”
