PCC Extension Offers Infection Control Course for Dental Assistants

Pasadena City College is proud to be the only public institution in the San Gabriel Valley offering a Dental Board of California-approved course in infection control. The course is required for all dental assistants within one year of the date of employment and for registered dental assistant applicants who have not completed a Board-approved program in dental assisting.

“In light of the recent report concerning the 60 dental patients in Oklahoma who have tested positive for hepatitis or HIV due to poor sanitation practices, it is more imperative than ever that dental assistants are properly trained to serve patients,” said Dr. Lorraine Gagliardi, PCC professor of Health Sciences.

The eight-hour course, offered through PCC Extension, is comprised of a four-hour didactic and a four-hour clinical. The course is $275 with a $40 materials fee.

“The course is high-quality and low-cost, and meets the needs of dentists for hiring qualified assistants,” Gagliardi said.
