PCC Foundation President-elect Robert Miller Resigns

Published on Friday, July 28, 2023 | 6:18 am

Robert “Bob” Miller, former Interim Superintendent of Pasadena City College and President-elect of the PCC Foundation, resigned from the Foundation Tuesday saying he believes nothing he has to offer or would wish to accomplish as Foundation President would be seriously considered by the College’s current Board of Trustees.

The Foundation is an independent all-volunteer group that has raised more than $16 million in recent years to support PCC arts education, athletics, career education, and scholarships.

Miller — also former President of the Tournament of Roses — was in line to become the PCC Foundation’s President during the College’s 100th year.

“Having listened to the July 19, 2023, Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees meeting, I have decided to resign [from the PCC Foundation Board of Directors], Miller wrote.

“I believe … my ability to invest my time in endeavors that are fruitful and make a difference in the communities I serve, is a better use of my time,” Miller wrote.

Current PCC Foundation President Don Schweitzer said he was “deeply saddened”  to have received Miller’s resignation.

“Bob’s reasons for resigning from the foundation include his concerns about the relationship between the Board of Trustees and the Pasadena City College Foundation. I share Bob’s concerns,” Schweitzer said. “I have observed a considerable decline in the relationship we have with the Board of Trustees.”

“The Pasadena City College Foundation is a non-profit organization, comprised of generous people who volunteer their time and money to the betterment of the school and students.  Our Foundation has a long history of making significant contributions to the school. We have raised millions of dollars for student scholarships and improvements to the campus. The success of our Foundation depends on the support we receive from the Board of Trustees,” Schweizer said.
