PCC Student Chosen to Showcase at Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association Seminar

Second-year student Shannon Yong represented Pasadena City College this past Saturday, Sept.19 at the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association Seminar, more commonly known as Demo Day.

This seminar is an established yearly tradition for the organization where newcomers who are interested in speech and debate have the opportunity to connect with the community, ask questions of faculty from numerous schools, and to see successful competitors demonstrate the various events in the activity.

Shannon is one such successful competitor. As a 17-year-old pre-med who is already finishing up her second year at PCC, it would be accurate to say that her educational path has been an accelerated one.

Her showcase piece at the event was an Informative Speech about innovative transplantation technologies that allow vital organs such as lungs and even hearts to continue working even as they exist outside the human body. “Heart in a box,” as Shannon refers to it, helps to solve one of the major problems with transplantations – keeping organs alive long enough to survive transportation to the recipient.

We’re a welcoming community and are always in search of more talent and enthusiastic participants.
