Pasadena City College’s Ayanna Winter Guard completed their inaugural season with a gold medal win at the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) Championships.

The first place finish in the Independent A division caps off an undefeated WGASC season for the 17-member student group.

“I could not be prouder of the Ayanna Winter Guard for all of their accomplishments this season,” said Kyle Luck, PCC director of bands. “Winning the gold medal at the championships was icing on the cake.”

Winter Guard is an indoor color guard activity where performers spin and toss flags, sabres and prop rifles while performing intricately choreographed dance routines. Originally a military tradition, marching band color guard has long since evolved into a highly artistic activity.

Ayanna Winter Guard is an extension of the Lancer Marching Band and Color Guard program, and is instructed by Dr. Deborah Seeley, Enrique Miramontes, Raul Torres and Joey Leon.
