Investigators on Friday released an image of a car sought in connection with a Pasadena drive-by shooting in May that left a Duarte man dead and a second man wounded.
Ray Magee Jr, 24, died in the shooting, which took place just after 4 p.m. on May 23 in the 1500 block of North Lake Avenue, according to Pasadena police officials and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner records. A 23-year-old Duarte man wounded in the shooting was initially hospitalized in critical condition but survived.
“Preliminary investigation revealed both victims were stopped in their vehicle in the area when a late model sedan drove behind them and fired multiple times into their vehicle,” police said at the time in a written statement. “The suspect vehicle was occupied by at least two unknown suspects.”
Magee was taken to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds, officials said.
Magee died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to medical examiner records. The death was ruled a homicide.
The killers were last seen heading south on Lake Avenue in a silver, 2017 Dodge Charger with tinted windows, police said. Detectives released a surveillance camera image of the car Friday in hopes of generating leads from the public.
“Although the motive remains unconfirmed, all information and investigative leads suggest a feud between a local Pasadena gang and a rival gang from the Duarte area which recently resurfaced in early May 2020, prior to this murder,” police said in a written statement Friday.
