Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) is now offering telehealth abortion pill services (also known as medication abortion), which can be arranged by computer, tablet, or smartphone.
The launch of this program aims to increase access to safe and legal abortions and provide individuals with a convenient and confidential option from a Planned Parenthood provider they trust.
PPPSGV is the first Planned Parenthood affiliate to offer the abortion pill via telehealth in Southern California.
“Our commitment to reproductive freedom and health care equity is what drives us to find new ways to meet the evolving needs of our communities,” said Sarah Egan CNM, MS, Director of Medical Services at PPPSGV.
“We recognize the challenges people can face in accessing abortion services, so we are committed to providing safe and convenient options. Our new telehealth abortion pill option allows us to meet our patients where they are and ensures they can receive the same quality care they’re used to from anywhere in California.”
PPPSGV said it is launching this service to counter what they describe as ongoing attacks on access to the abortion pill nationwide.
According to PPPSGV, there is evidence that the medications used for abortion – mifepristone followed by misoprostol – are safe and effective.
