Police Investigating Tuesday Morning’s Double-Fatality Accident Release More Information

Pasadena Police investigating this morning’s double-fatality traffic collision at the intersection of El Molino Avenue and Maple Street that killed a Pasadena mother and her daughter have released more information and asked for the public’s help.

In a statement about the 12:15 a.m. Tuesday accident, police said a late model Kia Optima, travelling westbound on Maple Street, struck a 2005 Chevy Impala travelling northbound through the intersection of El Molino Avenue and Maple Street.

Pasadena Police Lt. Pete Hettema said that the investigation is not complete and no conclusions about which driver was at fault can yet be determined.

The Kia was being driven by a 19-year old man with a 20-year old  man as passenger, both from Pasadena. The driver was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The passenger was not injured, police said.

There were five Pasadena residents in the Chevy Impala, driven by a 42-year old woman with an 18-year old woman front seat passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The three passengers in the rear seat of the Impala were transported to a local hospital for treatment. An 18-year old man sustained minor injuries, and a 38-year old man and 41-year old woman sustained critical injuries.

Police and Coroners officials said the deceased victims were identified as Maria Escobedo, 42, and her daughter, Vanessa Escobedo, 18.
