Two women were victims of necklace snatchings Friday which occurred minutes apart in north central Pasadena, police report. It is not known if the incidents are related.

In the first, an 18-year-old woman was walking along Raymond Avenue near Painter Street when her assailant snatched the chain from her neck and fled at 1:16 p.m., Lt. Jason Clawson said.

The victim, who was unhurt, knew the robber from school and was able to identify the suspect from a yearbook. The suspect is described by Clawson as a black man who remains at large.

The second incident occurred only twenty-four minutes later and about one mile from the first, where a man snatched a necklace from a 52-year-old woman waiting for a bus on Madison Ave. near Villa Street, Clawson said.

That suspect, described as black man from 20 to 30 years of age sporting a goatee, was pursued by a witness to an apartment complex on Maple Street between Madison and Oakland Ave., where the suspect jumped a fence and disappeared.

According to media reports, arriving officers set up a perimeter and closed off a square block between Maple Street, Villa Street, Los Robles Avenue and Oakland Avenue. A large number of police units searched for almost 2 hours but the suspect was not apprehended.
