Police ultimately used a Taser to subdue a man whom they say was trying to force his way into a Pasadena home and then charged toward officers who responded to investigate Friday morning.

Authorities first received a call just before 2 a.m. from a resident of the 1000 block of Hastings Ranch Drive, who said a man was tampering with the front door and trying to get inside the home, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Russo said.

“Officers arrived on scene to find the suspect was at the front door, pulling on the front door and trying to get into the home,” he said.

Officers ordered the man repeatedly to stop, but he continued, the lieutenant said. The man then turned aggressively toward police, he said.

“He decided to charge the officers,” Russo said. “A Taser was deployed to subdue and restrain the suspect.”

The man continued to fight with officers as they wrestled him into handcuffs, he said. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Jose Anthony Garcia, was taken to a hospital for examination before being booked into the Pasadena City Jail on suspicion of felony resisting arrest, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records. His city of residence was unknown.

It was determined that Garcia and the victim knew one another and were involved in some sort of dispute, Russo said. The investigation was ongoing.

Bail for Garcia was set at $50,000 pending his initial appearance in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
