Police to Crack Down on DUI Drivers in Pasadena on Friday

Extra police will be hitting the streets in Pasadena on Friday with the specific goal of finding and arresting intoxicated drivers, officials said.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pasadena Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe while running essential errands,” the department said in a written statement.

Officers will not only be on the lookout for drunken drivers, but those impaired by drugs as well, whether illegal, prescription or over-the-counter, according to the statement. “While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.”

“Safety is paramount, but especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Lt. Max Dahlstein said. “We are all in this together and want everyone to be as safe as possible when they are out. One way to do that is by not driving impaired.”

Funding for Friday’s campaign is being provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
