Problem Liquor Store to Be Demolished Saturday

A liquor store in Pasadena that formerly burdened to the city with more than 358 documented police responses, during the last five years – more than one police response per week – will no longer be standing by Saturday afternoon.

Police Chief Phillip Sanchez and District 5 Councilman Victor Gordo invite the public to a”Liquor Store Demolition & Community Celebration” beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the liquor store at the southwest corner of Summit Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard, which been a magnet for crime and other offensive/bad behavior, officials said, for more than 30 years.

“Working together as neighbors, partnering with the PPD, City Staff and Heritage Housing Partners, we succeeded in closing Andy’s Liquor Store late last year,” Gordo said. “The change is undeniable; loitering and police call have dropped dramatically.”

Pasadena Weekly reported that the property at 124 E. Orange Grove Blvd. will become Summit Grove, a 21-unit complex for low- and moderate buyers.

The property was purchased by Heritage Housing Partners, which is a non-profit.
