According to the report submitted by the city’s fire department to the committee, aside from Pasadena, Burbank and Glendale are also parties to the mutual aid agreement.

Pursuant to the agreement, the so-called tri-cities and the LFD should support each other when requested during emergency incidents.

The proposed Automatic Aid Agreement replaces the previous agreement between the tri-cities and LFD executed in 2019.

According to the fire department, the amount and type of assistance indicated in the previous agreement and the new agreement are the same.

Under the agreement, the tri-cities will provide resources to the LFD to combat emergency incidents in areas identified in the agreement. Responses of the tri-cities include Structure Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Response, Freeway Fire, EMS and Technical Rescue, Brush Response and Swift Water Rescue.

Reciprocally, the LFD will also provide the same services to the tri-cities when requested. Aside from the mentioned services, the LFD will also provide additional resources including helicopter response when requested, subject to approval.

According to the Pasadena Fire Department, the fiscal impact of the automatic aid is unknown but it also said that the agreement will not increase or decrease the city’s costs.

“While there may be periodic cost increases during emergency incidents, there may also be additional savings in life and/or property in Pasadena and the surrounding community.”

The new agreement, if approved and once executed by all parties, would commence on April 1, 2022. It would be in effect until March 31, 2025.
