Pasadena Unified School District spokesperson Adam Wolfson said the school board voted Tuesday night to award a $27.5 million contract for the construction of the long-awaited Sierra Madre Middle School.
The middle school will have 22 classrooms, two science labs, a gym and a computer lab.
The action was carried through by a 5 to 1, with with board member Kim Kenne voting against it and board member Renatta Cooper absent from Tuesday night’s meeting.
The school board rejected moving the construction of the middle school forward in January after the lowest bid it received was almost $32 million.
The project is being funded by the $350 million Measure TT Bond initiative that Pasadena voters passed on Nov. 4, 2008 to repair and upgrade Pasadena Unified School District’s aging facilities.
