Rash of Bronze Light Pole Thefts Continues in Pasadena, Latest Loss Valued at $2,000

The theft of a city-owned bronze light pole on Thursday, April 4th was the latest in a string of similar crimes that plagued Pasadena over the past week, according to authorities.

The pole, valued at approximately $2,000, was reported stolen from the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Barclay Alley.

Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau said that this incident follows a rash of bronze light pole thefts, with an estimated four to five poles stolen earlier in the week. Authorities have not confirmed if the thefts are connected.

Patrol officers responded to the latest theft report at 12:50 p.m. The theft was initially reported by a citizen, but a City employee was at the scene when the police arrived.

Officers found a witness who claimed to have heard what sounded like metal being dragged across concrete at about 2:00 a.m. that morning, Campeau said.

A surveillance camera was reportedly located in the area that may have captured the incident. However, the resident was allegedly not home at the time and officers must follow up to obtain any video.

The investigation is ongoing, and no other witnesses or video evidence was located, according to Campeau.
