The Hilton Hotel in Pasadena has partnered with a startup company to offer discounted prices during the closing minutes of its buffets to reduce food waste and combat global hunger.

BuffetGO — a young global company that allows consumers to purchase buffet food that would have otherwise been thrown away at a price reduced by 75 to 90 percent — has brought their unique idea to the City of Pasadena.

The concept works by allowing customers to find participating buffets near them through BuffetGO’s website, take and confirm their order with the restaurant and then go pick it up as a to-go meal.

This way, the restaurant makes money on food that would have been wasted anyway, the consumer gets a cheap environment-friendly meal and BuffetGO gets to raise funds to donate to the United Nation’s World Food Program, according to a statement made by the organization.

BuffetGO’s revolutionary idea started in Finland but grew rapidly in Denmark, according to the company’s webpage. It is now currently operating in eight different countries and provides restaurants with 100 percent profit margins while simultaneously reducing their food wastes.

The Hilton in Pasadena has agreed to offer discounted food rates from 10:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday through Friday and from 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on weekends, according to BuffetGO’s website.

The usual price to eat at the breakfast buffet of the Hilton is $19, however customers can grab a to-go meal for just $4 using BuffetGO.

According to BuffetGO’s website, the company created this unique service to reduce the estimated 141 trillion calories of food wasted yearly in the United States, stop rotting food that releases greenhouse gases from piling into landfills and help those who can’t afford quality food receive the nourishment they need.

The Hilton in Pasadena is located at 168 Los Robles Avenue between Cordova and Green Streets. For more about BufferGO see www.buffet-go.com/
