“Saturday Love” Dance to Support Pasadena Buddhist Temple

As the fallout from the pandemic still continues to impact the events of the Pasadena Buddhist Temple, the upcoming “Saturday Love” dance event seeks to provide much-needed financial support for the temple’s critical repairs. Featuring the popular Japanese American dance band, Kokoro & Friends, the event offers Baby Boomers an opportunity to showcase their smooth moves and enjoy a night of dancing, socializing, and reminiscing with old friends.

The event will take place on March 11 at 1993 Glen Ave., with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy a bento dinner provided by Sushi with Attitude and a no-host bar before the dancing starts at 6:45 p.m. The event will continue through the night until 10 p.m. Along with line dancing lessons from Beverly Toyama and Akimi Watanabe, there will be opportunity drawings for guests to win exciting prizes.

With a focus on supporting the temple’s critical repairs, all proceeds from the dance event will go towards funding asbestos removal in the temple and classrooms, as well as termite fumigation of the entire property. Due to the pandemic, the temple had to cancel its major fundraisers for two years, including the Obon, Chicken Teriyaki, and Sukiyaki Dinners, and Bingo Night. The event is the first of its kind since the pandemic began, and organizers hope it will be an enjoyable way to reunite with old friends while supporting the temple’s essential repairs.

Sponsor tables of eight are available for $500, and they come with a dessert box, snacks, bottled water, and bento. Regular tables of eight are also available for $400 and include bento and snacks.
