With wildfire season on the horizon, Southern California Edison plans to use helicopters and drones to conduct aerial inspections of its equipment in Pasadena this weekend, according to the utility.

Extra crews will also be performing inspections on the ground.

The work is to take place during daylight hours on Saturday and Sunday, SCE representatives said in a written statement.

The goal is fire safety, officials said.

“We are doing this type of work in all high fire risk areas — approximately 35 percent of our service territory is high fire risk,” according to the statement. “We understand our activities may be disruptive and will do everything to minimize the impact on your community.”
