The Pasadena City College men’s soccer team was held scoreless for the third straight match Friday as the Lancers were shut out by Rio Hondo, 2-0, at Robinson Stadium. The Lancers have scored just one goal in four games and fell to 0-3-1 on the season.

PCC hasn’t scored in 286 minutes and none of its seven shots v. the Roadrunners resulted in a single save for Rio Hondo goalie Luis Marquez. Rio Hondo (5-0-2) was led by Sergio Becerra, who scored both of his team’s goals in a span of seven minutes during the second half. Each of the goals came about due to sloppy defense by the Lancers inside their own 25.

Pasadena goalie Yusuf Elmasri made five saves while Artin Almary took three shot attempts.

“We played very well in the first half, but we started making some poor decisions in our own zone and it cost us,” said PCC head coach Edgar Manvelyan. “We still have to do a better job of creating scoring opportunities.”

On defense, PCC has only allowed six goals in four games, but no victories to show for it.

Next up for the Lancers as part of a 5-game homestand is a Tuesday, Sept. 15 match against San Bernardino Valley. Game time is 3 p.m. at Robinson Stadium.
