Police are looking for a man who they say carjacked a private security guard’s work vehicle at a park in Pasadena on Tuesday evening.

The crime took place about 7:30 p.m. as the security guard was closing the gate at Viña Vieja Park, 3026 E. Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.

The victim was suddenly shoved from behind, knocking him to the ground, he said.

“When he looked back, he saw his vehicle was being driven away east on Orange Grove Boulevard,” according to the lieutenant.

Officers found the freshly stolen security vehicle minutes later, abandoned in a parking lot in the area of Halstead Street and Electric Drive, just under a mile away, he said. But the carjacker remained at large.

Dawkins said the victim complained of pain to his knees but was not seriously hurt.

Police described the carjacker as a man between 20 and 30 years old, with a tattoo on the right side of his neck, wearing a dark-colored beanie with a white stripe.
