The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department mourned the death Saturday of a deputy and his daughter, who died in a traffic collision during an off-duty vacation in Oregon.

Deputy Dennis Gill and his 14-year-old daughter died in an early Saturday morning crash which his 11-year-old son survived, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said on social media.

Gill is also survived by his wife, Villanueva said.

He was hired by the LASD in 2000 and his assignments included working Pasadena court services in the Pasadena Courthouse at 300 East Walnut Street.

He had also been assigned to the North County Correctional Facility, West Hollywood patrol and the County Services Bureau, Villanueva said in a post on social media.

“Dennis was regarded as compassionate, professional, helpful, and respectful person, who was about providing public service with nothing in return,” the sheriff said. “The Department is suffering from a tremendous loss. Our hearts go out to the family, friends and loved ones of Deputy Gill. We lost a great partner, friend and a public servant.”

The time and location of the crash were not available.
