[UPDATED] Police found a discarded loaded handgun, but no victims, after shots rang out in front of Jackie Robinson Park in Pasadena on Monday night, officials said.
The shooting took place about 8 p.m. at the northwest corner of the park at Hammond Street and Morton Avenue, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
Callers reported hearing gunshots, but no eyewitnesses were found, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said. Officers found bullet holes in the walls of nearby apartments, but no victims.
While searching the area, officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun that had been discarded nearby, the lieutenant said.
Pasadena police Lt. William Grisafe said there have been “significant concerns” over an increase in gun violence in the city in recent months.
“What is even more concerning is that that park, which directly across the street, is used by children in the community for day camp and these individuals had no regard for the community members’ safety when they randomly and indiscriminately fired several rounds,” he said. “This violence needs to stop.”
