On Saturday, the Sierra Madre Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run incident that occurred on February 3. The collision, which took place at approximately 10:03 a.m. on N. Baldwin Avenue near Montecito Avenue, involved a bicyclist and a pedestrian, leaving the latter with significant injuries.

After an extensive investigation by the Sierra Madre Police Department Detective Bureau, the suspect was identified as John Gabriel, a 49-year-old resident of the City of Los Angeles.

On April 6, Sierra Madre Police Detectives and patrol personnel executed a search and arrest warrant at Gabriel’s residence and storage unit, where they reportedly collected evidence related to the hit-and-run incident, according to a Department statement.

Gabriel was taken into custody and booked for felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury under California Vehicle Code 20001(a). He was being held at the Pasadena Police Department City Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings and formal charges pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Sierra Madre police said.

The incident unfolded when the bicyclist collided with the pedestrian and fled from the scene. The Sierra Madre Fire Department transported the injured pedestrian to a local hospital for treatment.

The Sierra Madre Police Department is urging anyone with information about the collision or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Detective Nelson Ascano at (626) 355-1414 during business hours.
