Pasadena firefighters responded to a fire alarm Thursday morning at the Huntington Memorial Hospital and found a smoldering fire in one of the rooms in the hospital’s Levina building.
Firefighters first arrived on the scene at about 8:41 a.m. and saw no external signs of the fire, according to a Fire Dept. spokesperson.
They were directed to the blaze on the third floor of the building, where hospital personnel were evacuating patients from the unit to a safer area.
Using a portable water fire extinguisher, firefighters knocked down the blaze and prevented its possible extension into the walls and in the floor.
One fire engine from the Alhambra Fire Department and one engine from South Pasadena also assisted in the response.
Investigators later determined the cause of the fire to be electrical.
