A small brush fire broke out in Eaton Canyon early Tuesday morning April 9, prompting a multi-agency response to contain the blaze, according to Lisa Derderian, Pasadena Fire Department press information officer.

The fire, dubbed the Creek Incident, was reported around 6:14 a.m. in a remote hillside area of heavy brush.

Pasadena Fire Department resources arrived on scene at 6:22 a.m. and sized up the fire at approximately 10 feet by 10 feet, with no structures threatened. The flames were not spreading significantly.

Pasadena Fire assisted Los Angeles County Fire Department with gaining access to the fire, establishing a helispot to fill helicopters, staging for arriving resources, providing lookouts for crew safety and command post support.

A Los Angeles County Fire helicopter dropped water on the fire while crews hiked in to establish a line around it, extinguish the blaze, and mop up.

The fire was ultimately determined to be in Los Angeles County’s jurisdiction. County fire crews remained on scene to patrol the area and ensure no further needs.

In total, the multi-agency response included 12 engines, 2 brush patrols, 1 Los Angeles County Fire Department hand crew, 1 county fire helicopter, 5 battalion chiefs, 1 deputy chief and 2 training captains from Pasadena Fire. Sierra Madre Fire Department also provided assistance.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which lasted a total of 2 hours and 48 minutes from the initial dispatch to closing out the scene.
