Long Beach City College, the state’s No. 12-ranked team, handed the visiting Pasadena City College women’s basketball team its worst South Coast Conference loss in 16 seasons under PCC head coach Joe Peron Friday night. The Vikings overpowered the Lancers, 74-42.

LBCC (14-4, 6-3 and fourth place in the conference) jumped out to a 39-27 halftime lead, then went on a 14-0 run to pull away 60-33 with 12 minutes left in the game. The Vikings, a squad that broke a 19-game win streak by Peron teams v. Long Beach in this season’s conference opener, received 18 points each from Charmaine Nelson and Luna Amico. Amico drilled three 3-pointers in the second-half spurt.

Unranked Pasadena once again dropped below .500 at 10-11 and now 4-5 and fifth place in the SCC. The Lancers had just two players score in double digits with 10 points each by sophomore forward Marquetta Stokes and frosh guard Stella Ghazarian.

PCC shot just 21 percent from the floor (15 of 72 attempts) and 12 percent on 3-point tries (3-for-25). The Lancers scored just 15 points in the second half. PCC’s season-low point total is the least by the college since Feb. 17, 2006 in a 54-42 loss at then Compton College.

The Lancers next travel to face El Camino College on Friday, Jan. 27 in a 5 p.m. SCC tip-off.
