Suspect Punches Man, Then Flees after Seeing Machete

Police are seeking a 29-year-old Pasadena man who they said punched a neighbor during a heated argument Tuesday night, retrieved a knife from his home, and then fled after seeing the neighbor armed with a much larger weapon.

Police Lt. Mark Goodman said the two are neighbors in the 900 block of Summit Avenue in Pasadena. He said they have been engaged in some type of dispute for some time and had a argument last night. He said the suspect approached the victim and the argument escalated into a physical confrontation where the victim was punched in the face.

“At some point in the fight, the suspect disengaged himself from the victim and went to his residence and retrieved a knife and threatened the victim with it,” Goodman related. “Not to be outdone, the victim armed himself with a machete in order to defend himself. Believing the small knife in his hand was inadequate against the machete, the suspect retreated and fled the location on foot.”

Goodman said none of the two neighbors were stabbed, and the victim who was punched did not require any medical attention.

The suspect who fled – and who could face an assault with a deadly weapon charge – has not been located, Goodman said.
