Police arrested a Los Angeles man on suspicion of cocaine dealing and seized an unserialized “ghost gun” after pulling the suspect over for a traffic violation in Pasadena on Saturday night, authorities said.

Officers stopped a car about 9:50 p.m. at Fair Oaks Avenue and Washington Boulevard, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

“There was a heavy smell of marijuana odor,” he said. “There was also visible marijuana in the car.”

The driver, later identified as Darius Izese Daugherty, 20, of Los Angeles, was detained and his car was searched, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records.

Officers found an unserialized 9mm handgun, commonly referred to as a “ghost gun,” inside the vehicle, as well as over an ounce of cocaine, 50 small baggies and a scale, according to Burgess.

Daugherty was booked on suspicion of weapon-related violations and possession of cocaine for sales.

According to booking records, he was released from custody Sunday morning pending legal proceedings after posting $35,000 bail.

Another routine traffic stop just a block away on Tuesday also yielded a gun, police said.

After pulling over a car shortly before 6 p.m. At Fair Oaks Avenue and Howard Street, officers found the driver had no license, and also discovered a woman riding as a passenger had a loaded gun in her purse, Lt. Sean Dawkins said at the time.

The woman, a 26-year-old Palms Springs resident, was arrested, according to police and booking records. She was ultimately released with a citation pending her initial court appearance.

In January alone, police seized 9 guns during what started as routine traffic stops, according to department statistics. department statistics. Another stops led to the seizure of “numerous narcotics” and “a large sum of U.S. currency,” according to a police statement.

A total of 29 guns were seized, altogether, during January, Lt. William Grisage said.

“Fortunately, those who were in possession of the firearms were cooperative with officers,” he said.
