Firefighters knocked down a three-alarm fire at a three-story apartment building near Caltech, where a firefighter at the scene suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, a city spokeswoman said Saturday.

Firefighters dispatched at 10:41 p.m. Friday to the 1100 block of E. Del Mar Blvd. reported that a first floor unit at the three-story structure was fully engulfed in flames, said City of Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.

A firefighting effort that included the San Marino, Glendale, South Pasadena and Alhambra fire departments had the blaze out within 30 minutes of their arrival, Derderian said.

“Approximately 16 apartments were displaced as the complex was deemed inhabitable,” she said. “”Residents were offered housing assistance but were able to find temporary placement. An arson investigator responded to the scene.”

A Pasadena firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the fire and was transported to an area hospital for treatment, she said.

No residents were injured and a cause of the fire was under investigation.
