The Rose Bowl is Back, And So Is Another Tradition: Pasadena Jaycees Selling Game Programs to Raise Funds for Charity

Pasadena Junior Chamber members once again will sell Rose Bowl Game programs as a memento of the 2022 Rose Bowl Game when the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes face off against the No. 10 Utah Utes, and as part of their fundraising effort to continue their charitable projects that support the local community.

The Pasadena Jaycees have been in charge of selling official Rose Bowl Game programs for decades through a longstanding partnership with the Tournament of Roses, and a history that goes back to the colorization of the field for the very first Rose Bowl Game.

The Jaycees take up positions on the stadiums grounds and traditionally do a brisk business.

“For 92 years, the Pasadena Jaycees have strived to make a positive impact on the Pasadena community, ,” Phillip Arce, President of the Pasadena Jaycees, said. “I am grateful for our long-standing relationship with the Tournament of Roses, and I am thrilled that we are able to resume our Program Sales project to help us fund our community service projects in the coming year.”

With every purchase of a Rose Bowl Game program, the Jaycees are able to continue Operation Santa, which just this weekend served nearly 1,000 local children in need with toys and gifts for the 2021 holidays, and Operation Gobbler, where the Jaycees partner with Friends In Deed, which has provided the ingredients for Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of families each year.

The Jaycees also host Five Acres’ Parties, which help bring fun, education, and possible future mentors to the foster children living at Five Acres. Your support also enables other projects that the Jaycees organize, such as Operation Strong, where they gave away hygiene kits to those in need during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Operation Restaurant Worker, where the Jaycees helped out-of-work restaurant workers as the pandemic raged on and restaurants were closed.

Operation Santa has been going on since 1934, when hundreds of volunteers, dressed for the occasion as Santas, Mrs. Clause, and elves deliver thousands of toys on Christmas Eve. Operation Santa was a little different this year and last, but hundreds of children throughout the greater Pasadena area still received their holiday gifts through a contactless pick-up option.

Operation Gobbler has been serving the local community for 34 years; this past Thanksgiving Day, the Jaycees and Friends in Deed were able to deliver a turkey and other fixings to over 300 families.

At Five Acres in Altadena, the Pasadena Jaycees have hosted an Easter-themed party for the children living there since 2007, and have started an annual Summer Party there as well. Support for these events is possible with help from local businesses and the community.

The Pasadena Jaycees started in 1929 and have been a volunteer and leadership training organization for people aged 21 to 40 ever since.
