Three More Local Residents Have Died From Coronavirus in Largest Single-Day Toll to Date

[Updated] Three more residents have died of the Coronavirus, Pasadena Health officials reported on Tuesday. The deaths increased local fatalities caused by the virus to 12 and was the largest single-day increase in fatalities reported yet.

Meanwhile, the city confirmed 15 new cases raising the number of local residents that have been infected by the virus to 179.

According to the city’s Public Information Officer all of the decedents were between ages 49 and 93 years, and associated with long-term care facilities (residents or employees), and had underlying health conditions.

Eleven of the city’s 47 long-term care facilities have one or more patients infected the virus. That number has increased from nine. Brighton Care Center, Californian Pasadena Convalescent Hospital, Camellia Gardens, Fair Oaks by Regency Park, Foothill Heights Care Center, Garfield Care Center, Golden Cross Healthcare, Huntington Post Acute (Pasadena Meadows). Jasmine Terrace, Legacy Care Center, Pasadena Grove Health Center, Rose Garden and St. Vincent’s all have at least one patient struggling with the virus.

Long term health facilities across the state are struggling with outbreaks.

On Sunday, the city issued an order designed to help control the spread of the virus in those facilities.

Skilled Nursing Facilities are adult residential facilities that provide clinical care and are licensed and regulated by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Assisted Living Facilities are adult residential facilities that provide supportive services and health-related care and are licensed and regulated by the California Department of Social Services There are 31 assisted living facilities and 16 skilled nursing facilities that are licensed in Pasadena.

The measures include limited entry of individuals into facilities, required symptom screening for all employees prior to work, suspension of communal dining and activities, separation of patients with COVID-19 from those who do not have the illness, and use of proper personal protective effective against COVID-19.
