The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation announced Wednesday its 2024 grant awards, totaling nearly $200,000, which will be distributed among 20 organizations in the San Gabriel Valley. The grants will support new and ongoing programs benefiting individuals of all ages, from children to seniors, in the local community.

The Foundation’s 2023 Golf Classic presented by J.P. Morgan Private Bank played a significant role in raising more than $100,000 for the grants. This year, seven new organizations that have not previously received grant support from the Tournament of Roses Foundation will be among the recipients.

Established in 1983, the Foundation manages contributions from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, its members, donors, sponsors, and public supporters. The Association and the Foundation are dedicated to positively impacting the Pasadena community through charitable giving, volunteerism, and community involvement.

Over the years, the Foundation has contributed more than $5.7 million in charitable donations on behalf of the Tournament of Roses Association, investing in people through sustainable programs that benefit the community. This year’s grants include one $35,000 grant, one $20,000 grant, and 18 other community initiatives that received grants of up to $10,000 each.

The $35,000 grant was awarded to the Assistance League of Pasadena, which has been committed to uplifting the local community since 1936. Through Operation School Bell, the league provides essential resources like clothing, books, and school supplies to students from low-income families in Pasadena. This grant will strengthen the league’s efforts, ensuring every child has the tools to succeed.

Arlington Garden in Pasadena, the only free climate-appropriate, public habitat garden in Los Angeles County, received the $20,000 grant. The garden offers learning, inspiration, and enjoyment for all ages while endeavoring to engage, educate, and demonstrate how a climate-appropriate garden can be beautiful and practical while incorporating the goals of water conservation and environmental sustainability. The grant will fund the creation and distribution of a new nature journal focusing on mindfulness, observation, wellness, and creative inquiry based on ninth-grade high school standards.

The Foundation grants are categorized into three areas: Visual and Performing Arts, Sports and Recreation, and Education (Early Childhood Learning, STEAM/STEM, Literacy). These categories allow the Foundation to contribute to the civic, cultural, and educational advancement of the local communities.
