Tournament of Roses Releases Report Showing Its Community Impact Is Year Round

Published on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 | 5:42 am

Known for the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game, the famed Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association may entertain the world once a year, but the organization prides itself in giving back to the community all year long.

Each year, the Association provides a Community Impact Report detailing their commitment to serving the community.

“With many challenges, 2020 and 2021 were unprecedented years. While the COVID-19 pandemic may have resulted in a canceled parade and relocated game in 2021, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association still had momentous years and continued to have a significant social impact,” said Executive Director/CEO of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses David Eads. “If there is anything we have learned from the past two years, it is that this Association is a cornerstone of the Pasadena-area community. Our local impact, volunteering and investing in our community remain critical components of our work.”

The engagement and impact efforts include developing and implementing programs around enhancing educational opportunities, investing in the community, strengthening community business partnerships, and creating experiences that make a difference.

According to the Tournament, examples include:

  • Enhancing educational opportunities: Partnered with the Pasadena Educational Foundation and College Football Playoff Foundation to provide teacher grants totaling $340,000 over two years to Pasadena Unified School District teachers.

  • Investing in the community: Addressed COVID-19 relief and local needs by contributing $100,000 to nine Pasadena-based food pantries, which distributed more than 2,912,180 pounds of food in 2020.

  • Strengthening community business partnerships: Partnered with the City of Pasadena and various community-based organizations, including Day One and the Pasadena Community Coalition, to promote the City’s #VaccinatePasadena initiative.

  • Creating experiences that make a difference: Partnered with the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles and The Lucille & Edward R. Roybal Foundation to host the first and second annual Día de los Muertos Art competitions, awarding $12,000 in scholarships and prizes.
