Transient Attacked by His Girlfriend, Also a Transient, and Two Others

A 48-year-old homeless man is being treated in a Pasadena hospital after he suffered cuts in the face and possibly more injuries in the upper body after he was attacked by what police said was his girlfriend aided by two male suspects on the South Arroyo Parkway early today.

Pasadena Police Lt. John Mercado said the department received a call from staff at the Union 76 gas station on East Glenarm Street at Arroyo Parkway about 2:35 a.m. about a man bleeding from his face.

Police officers were at the scene in minutes.

“The victim is a 48-year-old male, white, who is homeless, transient,” Mercado said. “His injuries were a laceration to the left eyelid, a laceration above his right eye, a laceration to the left side of his forehead, and possibly broken ribs.”

The incident reportedly occurred at the rear of a building in the 1000 block of South Arroyo Parkway.

Mercado said the girlfriend, the first suspect in this assault with a deadly weapon case, is a 44-year-old white female, also a transient.

The victim told investigators he had an argument with his girlfriend and she left. Shortly afterwards, she returned with two male suspects, one of them white, about 5 foot 7 inches tall, and the other black, clothed in all black, and started assaulting him.

The girlfriend used a steak knife to cut the victim on in the face, and when he went down, the other suspects started kicking him and hitting him with a short metal pipe.

When police responded, they found the victim bleeding, but there was no sign of the suspects. Police searched the area but were not able to find them.

The victim was transported by paramedics to a local hospital. An investigation is ongoing, Mercado said.
