Many may not realize it, but most of the funds used to support the community philanthropic projects undertaken by volunteers with the Pasadena Assistance League are raised by sales at the organization’s Treasure Fair Gift Shop, located at 3239 E. Foothill Blvd., Pasadena.

However, the thrift store has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while at the same time the needs of the most vulnerable members of the community have increased, said Assistance League volunteer Lynne Young.

But things appear to be turning around, with more businesses being allowed to reopen, including the popular thrift shop, which will reopen at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10, Young said. It will continue to be open with reduced hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Now, with sales from the thrift store, projects such as Operation School Bell, which provides critically needed new clothing and school supplies to Pasadena school children, Bear Hugs, which provides Teddy bears to children suffering from abuse and other tragedy, and distribution of Assault Survivor Kits, which provide supplies to victims of both domestic and non-domestic assault, can resume, Young said.

“The Craft Fair Gift Shop also provides support to community seniors and many other projects each year,” Young added.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Oct. 3, the Assistance League will be hosting an outdoor rummage sale at the Assistance League headquarters at 820 E. California Blvd., Pasadena, Young said.

“As a result of COVID-19 closet clean-out projects, Treasure Fair Thrift Store has been blessed with an abundance of gently used clothing, household items, children’s clothes, and toys and many, many other wonderful bargains. We even have a lovely grand piano for sale,” Young said.

All COVID-19 health protocols are in place and masks will be required. Easy parking is available in the back of the property off Hudson Street.
