[Updated Tuesday, January 12, 2016 | 8:35 a.m.] Two people died and five others were injured in a two-vehicle accident near North El Molino Avenue and East Maple Street reported at 12:13 a.m. this morning, police said.
Firefighters arrived and found two vehicles involved in a crash with occupants pinned inside a vehicle.
“There were a total of five victims in one of the involved cars. Two adult females sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene,” a police statement said.
Pasadena Fire Department sources said that four patients in critical condition were transported to area hospitals.
The driver of the second car was treated at the scene and released, officials said.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known.
One of the cars was seen flipped upside down in video shot after the crash.
Police said to avoid the area as their investigation continues.
“The fatality collision near El Molino Avenue and Maple Street will cause traffic backups and detours until further notice,” authorities said.
Motorists were advised to consider Orange Grove Blvd and Walnut Street for westbound travel and Los Robles Avenue and Lake Avenue for northbound and southbound travel.
