Two Outages — One Electrical, One Cellular — Strike Pasadena on Monday

Areas of central Pasadena suffered power and telephone outages early Monday morning due to a problem traced to an underground vault.

Pasadena Water and Power’s Twitter page said crews were dispatched past 12 midnight when PWP started getting calls about the power outage. Pasadena officials said the outage covered some 1,000 customers in the area around Lake Avenue, Corson Street, Chester Avenue and Green Street.

Power was restored about an hour after the first Twitter notice, although crews had to work to restore power to about 80 residents that remained without electricity.

Earlier, PWP reported their telephone lines were down and advised customers to get in touch online.

In a statement, AT&T said a software glitch was seen as the cause of the phone service outage that affected cities across the U.S. including parts of Pasadena and Los Angeles County. Voice service was unavailable for hours since Saturday, AT&T said, although internet services from AT&T cellphones were not affected.

The phone company said malfunctioning equipment was the cause, and technicians were able to replace the equipment and restore service early Monday.
