This sermon was delivered by Rev. Warner Traynham, All Saints Church, Pasadena on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Warner retired as Rector of St. John’s LA in 2001, after a tenure of 18 years and is currently assisting on alternate Sundays at St. Alban’s and Holy Faith Parish in Inglewood Ca. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College, class of ’57 and The Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria Va., class of ’61. He began his ministry as assistant at St. James, Baltimore. From there he served as Vicar of St. Philip’s mission in Annapolis Md. After that he was Associate Episcopal Chaplain at Harvard and Radcliff, Rector of St. Cyprian’s Parish in Roxbury Mass. and then Director of Black Studies for the Boston Theological Institute. At that time he wrote “Christian Faith in Black and White: A primer in Theology from the Black Perspective”.

He served as Dean of the Tucker Foundation and Chaplain at his alma Mater, Dartmouth College, in Hanover, NH for nine years and then moved to Los Angeles as Rector of St John’s. He served twice as president of the Standing Committee as well as on numerous committees and commissions of the Diocese. He is married to Jocelyn P. Traynham and they have four adult children. He has published in several Religious and Library Periodicals. In addition to assisting at St. Alban’s and Holy Faith, Warner currently writes, paints and goes regularly to the gym.
