More than 30,000 Southland residents filled the Rose Bowl yesterday to celebrate the nation’s 239th birthday.
Brookside Park was filled with tailgate parties and barbecues, while the evening gave way to entertainment by a precision motocross team, pop singers and musical tributes to both Elvis Presley and the Beatles, celebrating their meeting in Los Angeles 50 years ago.
A spectacular fireworks show followed, which delighted the festive and happy crowd.
While security was tight for the event, no major incidents were reported.
