Virtual Community Town Hall on Wednesday Will Seek Public Input for Chief of Police Selection

Pasadena residents can help the City choose the next Chief of Police by attending a virtual Community Town Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 and providing their input for the selection team.

Earlier, the City decided to engage the services of a consultant, Koff and Associates, to search for the next Pasadena Police Chief.

The virtual town hall is one of the ways by which members of the community are able to say their piece about community policing, and share their ideas about the qualifications, characteristics, experience and background that they’d like to see in the Chief of Police.

“It’s important for the new City Manager and City Council to know what qualities our citizens believe a Chief of Police must possess to best serve the interests of our city and our community,” Cynthia Kurtz, Interim Pasadena City Manager, said. “What we hear will bear heavily in our selection process.”

Appointed by the City Manager, the Chief of Police plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs Pasadena’s overall public safety program in the enforcement of law and order and in the prevention of crime. He or she also coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.

The Police Chief’s duties include ensuring the department provides courteous and expedient service to the public and City department staff, and assuming full management responsibility for all department services and activities.

In order to attend the virtual Town Hall, members of the community are advised to register through Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86459880033 before the event starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

They can also join by calling (669) 900-6833 and using the webinar ID 864 5988 0033.

The Town Hall is expected to be up to 7 p.m.

If you’re unable to attend the community forum and would like to provide your input and feedback, contact Frank Rojas, Recruitment Manager at Koff and Associates, at (510) 495-0448, or send him an email at frojas@koffassociates.com.
