Walk to School Week Promotes Health and Safety

In support of the recently adopted wellness policy to keep students healthy and active, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) students, staff and families celebrate International Walk to School Week October 1 – 5 to promote good nutrition, community safety and physical education.

Captain John Benedict from the Altadena Station of the Los Angeles Sherriff’s Department along with firefighters and PUSD Board Member Elizabeth Pomeroy walked with students today at Jackson Elementary School in Altadena. They also delivered a message to students and families about the importance of exercise and how to stay safe in the community.

Tomorrow, Superintendent Jon R. Gundry and State Senator Carol Liu will participate in a walk to McKinley School. Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and Pasadena Police Chief Phil Sanchez will walk to Jefferson Elementary School on Thursday, October 4. Activities continue throughout the week with elected officials, community leaders and families participating.

Walk to School Week Activities

Tuesday, October 2, 8 a.m.
PUSD Superintendent Jon R. Gundry joins State Senator Carol Liu (21st District) for a “Walk to School” week event to promote healthy habits and physical activity. Walk begins at the Pavillions parking lot located at 845 E. California Blvd. and will proceed to McKinley School, 325 S. Oak Knoll Ave., Pasadena.

Wednesday, October 3, 8 a.m.
Julianne Hines, District Director for State Assemblymember Anthony Portantino, will join parents and students for a “Walk to School” week event to promote healthy habits and physical activity. Norma Coombs Alternative School, 2600 Paloma St., Pasadena

Thursday, October 4, 7:30 a.m.
Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and Chief of Police Philip Sanchez join parents and families for a “Walk to School” week event to promote healthy habits and physical activity. Jefferson Elementary School, 1500 E. Villa St., Pasadena

Friday, October 5, 8 a.m.
Field Elementary celebrates “Walk to School” week with an event to promote healthy habits and physical activity. Field Elementary School, 3600 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena
