Police arrested a documented gang member with outstanding arrest warrants after he allegedly opened fire in a residential neighborhood in Pasadena early Thursday, officials said.

Officers were investigating an unrelated incident just before 1:40 a.m. when they heard four to five gunshots ring out from the 100 block of East Orange Grove Boulevard, Pasadena Police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

As they rushed toward the scene, they saw two men running, he said. One of them was armed with a handgun.

The man with the gun ran into a nearby apartment complex, Burgess said. Police cordoned off the area and set up a search perimeter, with help from a police helicopter and a K-9.

The second man seen running from the shooting scene, who was believed to have been the intended target of the gunfire, was not injured, Burgess said. The 25-year-old Pasadena resident told police he was fired upon while retrieving a food delivery and did not get a clear view of the shooter.

Officers ultimately found and detained the suspect in the apartment complex, he said. Officers identified him as the man who had been seen with the handgun, but the weapon itself was not found.

Larry Thomas Fuller, 54, of Pasadena was booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, as well as a prior no bail warrant related to the same alleged offense, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records. He was also accused of violating the terms of probation.

Results from a gunshot residue test on Fuller’s hands were pending, Burgess said.

He was being held without bail pending his initial court appearance, records show.
