We Get Letters: Bad Advice?

Published on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 | 6:15 pm

Pasadena’s mayor may be getting poor advice.

His public scoldings related to a recent PUSD issue not under his governance jurisdiction only escalated the matter.

A tiny bit of homework would have revealed the principal of San Rafael Elementary School has the distinction of being selected “Principal of the Year” in 2019 and has a long waitlist of families hoping to attend the school.

The unfortunate incident will be resolved by school district leadership as is proper. The principal has publicly apologized and vowed to make amends. Neighbors will always have an obligation to report suspicious scalings of secured fencing since schools are community assets. Custodial staff need to wear their uniforms when on school sites. The next Teamster bargaining session might consider clearly defined cotton t-shirts for warmer months.

What is most regrettable is that the mayor’s response is another slice of evidence he will exploit the PUSD to “jump the shark” for political gain, no matter how inappropriate or at what collateral damage.
