I read with satisfaction André Coleman’s story on Monday, March 21 that the minimum wage will be going up to $16.11 per hour on Pasadena on July 1. The story could have mentioned that the minimum wage will be increased in the City and County of Los Angeles and Santa Monica as well. Such increases are examples of the social and economic justice that is due low wage workers who help to fuel the engine of economic growth in our community. It is only reasonable their wages at least keep pace with inflation. What is unreasonable is the notion that low wage workers should have to wait and suffer a “pause” in a wage increase. Thank goodness this increase is required by the minimum wage ordinance passed by the Pasadena City Council in March 2016.
